Beautiful Moon: Wakes Me Up

Before the Sunlight

Speaking With Maria Alice Silva-Amey: A Writer Who Thinks Differently About Humanity

by Kenneth Bailey  |on January 22, 2024 | Written Interview

HELLO MARIA ALICE SILVA-AMEY, WELCOME TO ABOUT INSIDER! WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO USE THE BLOOD MOON?
The Blood Moon, it’s a part of the book that Lara’s  verdict was recognized. That the Moon that she loved at the specific night, became sad and her tears were so hot and heavy that she felt hurt and blood was involved at the moment.

DO YOU WANT YOUR WORK TO BE READ BY ALL AGES AND DEMOGRAPHICS?
I would recommend 14 years old and above in all demographics.

HAVE YOU WOVEN ANY OF YOUR OWN BACKSTORY INTO LARA’S?
Yes. I have placed few events into Lara’s journey as well as other characters. I want to bring a strong personality and action in each and every character.

WHAT’S THE ONE PART OF THIS BOOK THAT MEANS THE MOST TO YOU NOW THAT YOU CAN REFLECT ON IT AS A WHOLE?
When Lara finally brought herself at the most thoughtful moment to tell the truth.

DID YOU DISCUSS YOUR IDEAS WITH ANYONE ELSE DURING THE WRITING PROCESS?
Yes I did. Law regulations, historic facts that I have to bring up to describe that could be unreal but also have a sense of reality.

IF THERE’S ONE MESSAGE YOU’D LIKE TO CONVEY WITH THE BOOK, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
Be prepared to face birthright feelings. Try not to compare family, friends and others to someone else especially if it’s a negative comparison.

WOULD YOU EVER CONSIDER EXTENDING LARA’S SEARCH FOR A HAPPY ENDING INTO A SEQUEL?

I feel that I should have a sequel to Lara’s journey. She sees her life at a safe place, when she feels happy and is out of the silence. This time I believe that she will describe the scariest moments that she didn’t share yet.

WHAT WAS THE FIRST THING YOU DID ONCE YOU FINISHED YOUR FINAL DRAFT?
I felt very happy. When I sent the manuscript and the editor point out about Lara’s Doll. That was a thoughtful point that I really like. I was able to describe important footpaths that helped Lara’s journey. For sure the readers will find Beautiful Moon very thrilling.

WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF GOING AS A WRITER IN THE NEXT 5 YEARS?
I would still be telling stories. When I was at the age of fourteen, I wrote a play, that was very fun and the children loved it. Today, my GodDaughter at the age of 10, she often asked me to tell her stories and after I finished, she would always asked ” It’s that for real? Or you just made it up?” I said, ” I made it up and then she said, ” that is very cool”. So, I am still planning to write more children’s stories.

WHAT WAS THE INSPIRATION BEHIND THE COVER ART?
The long walking on the beaches, travels and the unforeseen conversation a long side with friends and families, and the late night walking at the beach looking up to the Moon. I am very happy with the end result of the cover and how it turned out.

– THE US REVIEW OF BOOK –

“Thus I believe in vision and visualization because it nurtures the desire to live forever.”

A well-known William Faulkner quote reads, “The past is never dead. It’s not even past.” This novel, set in Brazil, reflects this sentiment in its underlying theme of how the lives of one’s ancestors can cast a shadow on descendants. The book’s protagonist, Lara Alberene, searches for information concerning her great-great-grandparents but is a bit bewildered when the truth is revealed. As the book unfolds, Lara’s past trauma of childhood abuse leaves her afraid and numb. She turns inward to her silence. When she meets Francisco, the two begin a romance. However, there are obstacles to their love, and the couple must overcome them to stay together. Will their love survive the trials they are facing, or will the past catch up with them and tear them apart?

Silva-Amey, inspired by family stories, writes in the first person from the point of view of her protagonist, Lara Alberene. As Lara reveals her story, the reader becomes enmeshed in her family history, which reveals the terrible situation of her ancestors. This section is fascinating as the truth Lara seeks comes to light and proves to be extremely shocking. Many aspects of Lara’s life are tragic and written in such a way as to evoke emotions in readers. However, as Lara reflects on her life, she gains strength through her deep spirituality. Though faced with many obstacles, Lara remains a strong character, reflecting one who is struggling yet fully intent on success. The author switches between Spanish and English renditions of the same name, which can be confusing. However, the reader becomes accustomed to this, and it doesn’t impede one’s enjoyment of this fascinating novel. This engaging narrative centers on family history and its effects on the present generation, a theme that will appeal to many.

“Expressing a wide range of universal, personal, and intimate emotions, these poems explore happiness, fulfillment, and the myriad of ways one personal interaction influences another. Poems like “In the End, There is the Restart” capture how one ending, however distressing, can actually be a new beginning. Others, such as “One Day,” focus on how a single moment in a solitary day can impact one immeasurably and indefinitely. “Verses and Illusion” celebrates the magic and mystery words create as they blend and merge to create the powerful force known as poetry. As the collection concludes, readers discover poems like “Walking Seagulls,” which fuse human curiosity and the natural world’s gifts and wonders. Colorful photographs interspersed throughout the collection create moments for introspection and self-reflection.

This poetry collection’s emotional power is shaped by the minimalist forms and language each verse utilizes. The speaker’s connection with nature, as well as other environments and surroundings, is deep, and the poignant detail in each poem conveys that connection. The poems are also inspirational and encouraging. For example, selections like “The New Walking Life” encourage readers to keep moving forward and embrace what life has to offer. Because of their positive messaging and personal honesty, the poems act like guideposts not only for reading but also for living. This book offers readers of all backgrounds and experiences a place to meditate and find solitude. Meanwhile, for poetry readers old and new, its verses attest to the timelessness and necessity of this age-old art form to articulate the individual and collective experience.”

- Nicole Yurcaba

“Brazilian Silva-Amey, a career counseling practitioner, describes her prevailing theory in the field as “Open Feelings Toward Chasing Your Dreams.” As the author reveals, this personal and professional motto is borne from a combination of three distinctive yet complimentary schools of thought: Person-Centered Theory, Social Learning Theory, and Jung’s Analytical Theory. A strong thematic assumption underpinning Silva-Amey’s work holds that “human beings are born innately good.” Beginning with this characterization, the writer then explores additional related concepts, including personality development, functional versus dysfunctional behavior, the role of emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual aspects, and the process of change. The book also covers the therapeutic or psychotherapy process itself, identifies key goals of the discipline, describes the counselor’s role in the process and various interventions and techniques, and examines the social influences upon the individual client. Silva-Amey proposes in detail an “independent study,” utilizing assessment tools of self-evaluation and academic strategies vis-à-vis advising, choosing one’s major, and seizing advantageous opportunities.

With particular emphasis placed on “sensitivity to” various cultural backgrounds, Silva-Amey describes her own journey to the United States as eye-opening, having heightened her appreciation of the diversity in America. In this sense, her book can be considered not only a primer on counseling or even simply the author’s professional theory of the discipline but additionally as a personal memoir. Such melding of nonfiction subsets serves well the author’s work, which is delivered with a candid, unassuming approach, granting accessibility and insight for the casual reader into the world of psychoanalytic theory. Not only does this make for an incredibly interesting read, it does so equally for professionals engaged in academic or career counseling, as well as the everyday adult reader outside the profession. Notably, such a method compliments the high quality of the writing, as well as the content covered within.”

– PROFESSIONAL BOOK REVIEW –

“Once I opened the pages of this book, I got hooked! The charming novel “Beautiful Moon Wakes Me Up Before Sunlight” by the Brazilian author Marie Alice Sylva Amey explores the complexities of inheritance, family bonds, and the resiliency of the human spirit. This engrossing book, which spans several generations, explores the lives of the Alberene family, with Lara Alberene at its core, as they negotiate sacrifice, love, and the difficulties of facing their history.

Lara Alberene, a girl whose personal challenges reflect the complexity of her family’s past, is at the center of the plot. Lara struggles right first with the weight of her heritage and her family’s expectations. Lara sets off on a voyage of self-discovery and personal development as she faces the difficult truths of her family’s past, including issues of race, slavery, and social conventions. Lara’s fortitude and unyielding will are evident throughout the book, even in the face of hardship. Lara never wavers in her convictions, whether she’s dealing with discrimination and prejudice or resolving ethical conundrums at work. Readers are motivated by her bravery and commitment to face their own inner issues and speak out against injustice.

Identity and the legacy of family history are two of the book’s most interesting topics of study. Readers are encouraged to consider their own ancestry and the influence it has had on their lives as Lara wrestles with moral dilemmas and faces the ghosts of her past. Lara eventually aspires to build a brighter future for herself and the people she loves by learning to embrace her heritage and finding strength in her journey of self-discovery via introspection and reflection.

What I loved the most about this novel is the fact that it is broken up into multiple parts, each of which provides a detailed examination of the past of the Alberene family and the interwoven lives of its members. This was one of the why I felt the pages turning very fast. Each chapter adds nuance and complexity to the overall plot, ranging from the forbidden love tale of Lara’s great-greatgrandparents, Margaret and Jose Carlos, to the intricate relationships and emotional challenges of Lara’s own family.

In terms of feelings, the sad love tale of Fabricio and Helena, whose bond transcends social lines despite severe opposition from the powerful Coronel, brought me a warm feeling that made me attached to the characters. Perhaps because it is introduced to readers in a single chapter? I have a thing for concise and coherent chapters in novels. The story explores themes of love, sacrifice, and the resilience of the human spirit as Fabricio struggles with questions about his origins and the truth about his connection with Helena.

As far as the negative feedback is concerned, I kind of felt lost around the middle of the book but thank god, a later chapter looks at Lara’s personal identity concerns and the fallout from her family’s background helped me get back on track. As Lara navigates difficult professional situations and gets past personal setbacks, her path becomes a perceptive investigation of forgiveness, love, and the enduring bonds of friendship and family.

The Brazilian landscape and the vibrant culture that shapes the protagonists’ life throughout the entire book are vividly portrayed by the author’s lyrical and descriptive approach. The environment, which includes the bustling streets of São Paulo and the tranquil beaches of Fortaleza, comes to life on the page, transporting readers to a world full of beauty, love, and heartache.

“Beautiful Moon Wakes Me Up Before Sunlight” is a captivating literary work that delves into the intricacies of familial bonds, cultural legacy, and the enduring power of the human spirit. Marie Alice Sylva Amey’s skill as a storyteller is evident in this engrossing narrative of love, grief, and the resilience of the human spirit. This book is certain to make a lasting impression on everyone who reads it because of its vivid style, profound subjects, and well-drawn characters. If you happen to like family entanglement and intrigue, I highly recommend this piece of literature. The book is a page turner and it took me less than 5 days to finish it. Every time i put it down, I rush once again to loose myself in its pages.

Maria Alice really did outdone herself once again. I have read three of her books so far and since I love to read poetry, I left this one till last. Three poems through and I was naturally pulled to the intriguing collection that was in front of me. This collection of poetry covers a wide range of topics, including love, longing, nature, and the unstoppable march of time, providing a thorough examination of the human condition. I was swept up into the speaker’s emotional environment with every page turn, traveling through happy, sad, and reflective times.

“A Dream,” a moving meditation on finding comfort in the midst of turbulence in life by embracing moments of beauty and tranquility, something that resonated with me at this point in my life. This collection’s opening poem invites readers to explore the intricacies of the human heart by setting the stage for the emotional journey that takes place throughout.

The anthology’s “A Figurative Image,” which explores the agony of unfulfilled love and the sting of betrayal, is among Maria Alice’s most arresting works. Anyone who has ever felt the anguish of a broken heart will be deeply touched by the honest passion this poetry conveys. By means of striking imagery and poignant words, the speaker reveals their weaknesses, providing an insight into the turbulent depths of interpersonal interactions.

The collection of pictures that accompanies most poems make you feel as one with the words that are woven so intricately with the pages. With each word, the authors makes you feel is if you are hearing the poem instead of reading it. Perhaps this is my take on many poems here, but then again, each person sees poetry differently than the other.

“A Full Day of Sun and Dream” captures the ephemeral moments of happiness that intersperse our lives and rejoices in the warmth and vigor of life. This poem reminds me that happiness is fleeting and exhorts me to treasure each moment as it comes.

The collection explores a wide range of emotions as it progresses, from the philosophical musings found in “Another Phase of Life” to the haunting emptiness shown in “Tear” and “Absence.” Every poem provides a glimpse into the inner workings of the human mind and encourages you to reflect on your own life experiences and worldviews. Rich tapestries of experience and emotion are painted by the anthology’s colorful and powerful images. Readers are taken to a different time and place with each poem, “Lonely Rain,” which evokes the lonesome beauty of a rainy day, and “Kite Boy,” which invites them to totally immerse themselves in the speaker’s world, “In the End, There Is the Restart,” speaks to a cycle of rebirth and regeneration, is one of the collection’s most notable pieces. “Best without You,” a reflection on the complexity of love and desire, and “Breeze,” which delves into the profound relationship between nature and introspection, both touch on this theme of transition.

This collection’s capacity to strike a deeply personal chord is what really made it stand out for me. I found myself thinking back on my own feelings and experiences as I read each poem, seeing reflections of my own path in the words on the page. The poet’s talent and creativity are demonstrated by their ability to establish such a personal connection with the reader.

This anthology is a profound and profoundly emotional voyage through the complexity of love, sorrow, and longing. It is a magnificent investigation of the human condition. It is a compilation that stays in the mind long after the last poem has been read because of its powerful imagery, expressive language, and heartbreaking themes. This book is an absolute must-read for anyone looking to fully immerse themselves in the beauty and power of poetry. I invite every avid poetry reader to give it a try, you certainly will not regret it. Thank you Marie Alice for such a beautiful piece.

Reading “Culminating Experience Personal Theory” by Maria Alice Sylva-Amey has been a really eye-opening experience for me as a reader. With a depth of understanding and clarity that captivates from the beginning, Sylva-Amey navigates the complex terrain of human nature, personal development, and the counseling process through its pages.

I was struck by Sylva-Amey’s examination of important ideas pertaining to presumptions about human nature right away in the first chapter. The fundamental conviction that people are good at heart and have the ability to change for the better established a strong basis for the conversations that followed. Using a wide range of theoretical frameworks, such as Person-Centered Theory and Social Learning Theory, the author offers a thorough understanding of empathy, self-awareness, and the significance of making decisions that are consistent with our inner beliefs. Throughout the book, the author’s emphasis on self-awareness and sincerity paves the way for a profoundly fulfilling and transformational journey.

Sylva-Amey explores the intricacies of adaptive and maladaptive behavior in Chapter Two, illuminating the elements that influence both favorable and unfavorable results in our lives. Her investigation of dysfunctional behavior provided insightful information about the complexities of the human condition, including the influence of incorrect reinforcement and emotional distress. Furthermore, the focus on encouraging diversity and opposing discriminatory actions highlighted how vital it is to build more understanding and caring communities.

I thought Chapter Four’s practical advice on the counseling therapeutic process to be really helpful. Setting objectives and using therapeutic methods like empathetic listening are just a few of the ways Sylva-Amey offers a road map for helping clients develop self-awareness and empowerment. Her focus on addressing societal issues and intercultural concerns in counseling sessions also brought attention to how crucial it is to create safe and welcoming environments where everyone can flourish.

The author’s introspective contemplation in the book’s last chapter was among its most influential features. Sylva-Amey skillfully communicates the significance of ending discrimination and fostering tolerance in society by drawing on her personal intercultural awareness that she has acquired throughout education and life experiences. Her appeal for valuing diversity and cultivating a true sense of appreciation for every person had a deep impression on me and motivated me to push for constructive change in my own neighborhood.

All things considered, “Culminating Experience Personal Theory” provides a thorough and perceptive examination of career planning, multicultural sensitivity, and personal development. Regardless of your background—counselor, educator, or just someone interested in personal growth—this book offers insightful methods and viewpoints for overcoming obstacles in life and reaching your greatest potential. This book has the ability to change people’s lives and have a significant impact on the world because of its unique combination of theoretical understanding, helpful advice, and sincere comments. I heartily suggest it to anyone looking to start a journey of personal and societal reform and gain a deeper understanding of both themselves and others.

As someone who is struggling with building the foundation of a strong career, I found Silva-Amey’s book very insightful. It provided me with a solid framework within which I must operate to achieve my professional goal. Her approach is very easy and constructive despite the variety of theories shut used to write the book. She simplified everything and made it very easy for the reader to comprehend and overcome the challenges and obstacles of life. I highly recommend giving this book a try if you are looking for non-fiction books about growth and personal development
